The second development period is from the 1990s to the early 21st century, that is, the development period of launching airbag technology for medium-sized ships. In 1994, a passenger ferry with a length of 694 meters, a width of 14.8 meters, and a weight of 900 tons was successfully launched at Zhoushan Shipyard. It marks a new starting point for the technology of ship launching airbags. This technology was rated as one of the top ten scientific and technological achievements in the shipbuilding industry that year.
The third development period is from the beginning of the 21st century to the present, the stage of application of airbag launching technology for large and medium-sized ships. In October 2002, the 10,000-ton oil tanker “Zhouhaiyou 28” was successfully launched with marine airbags in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. In August 2008, the 55,000-dwt bulk carrier “VICTORIAI” was successfully launched with airbags at Zhejiang. In December 2010, the 70,000-dwt bulk carrier “New Dongguan No. 1” was launched safely with airbags at Zhejiang. These successful cases all set new records for airbag launching technology.
