Second phase of revitalization work at Newport Harbor will start
Date:2024-06-21
The Government of Canada has announced that the multiyear revitalization of Newport Harbor is soon moving into its second phase of construction. This follows the completion of the first phase, which started in November 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
The initial phase focused on constructing a new dock along the beach area to accommodate the increased mooring needs due to the arrival of crab harvesters. Additionally, dredging was performed in front of the new dock, and a service area was established at the base of the coastal wharf.
The second phase, set to commence in the fall of 2024, will involve the reconstruction of the coastal wharf, known as the “quai des côtiers.” This new infrastructure aims to provide fish harvesters with a safe and weather-resistant facility.
