Port Bremen, Germany’s second largest container port, to be expand
Date:2023-02-21
Port Bremen, Germany’s second-largest container port, will be expanded and upgraded to handle increasingly larger container ships. The project is expected to cost around several hundred million euros, with construction scheduled to start in 2026 and completed in the late 2030s.
At present, the expansion project of Port Bremen is still in the planning stage. It is expected that Port Bremen will need to build a new quay wall 8 to 10 meters in front of the old quay wall, and large equipment such as quay bridges will also be relocated accordingly. The shoreline is about 2.8 kilometers long.
After the completion of the project, the channel of the Weser River will be deepened, and at the same time, the competitiveness of the port Bremen in European container terminals will be improved.
