Namibia plans to expand port to develop offshore oil and gas
Since the discovery of oil resources offshore Namibia, the country is seeking private investment to expand port infrastructure, estimated to require 40 billion Namibian dollars ($2.1 billion). The port expansion project includes the construction of new berths and ports to support drilling services. Namibia estimates that the port expansion project will take three years.
The port expansion plan also includes the construction of a second port in Luderitz, Namibia, as well as other expansion projects to cater for multi-platform vessels. Andrew Kanim said: “We will provide land for port development and invite private companies to operate. Private companies with technical expertise and financial strength are welcome to invest in Namibia’s port expansion projects.”
