Med Marine halfway through tug newbuilding programme
Med Marine has started operating a new harbour tug in the İzmit Bay province, signally that it is halfway through a six-vessel newbuilding campaign. Med XXVI, like its sister tugs, is built to a RAmparts 2300-MM design, which is adapted from a Robert Allan coastal towage tug model.
It has a top sailing speed of 12 knots and bollard pull of 50 tonnes. Med XXVI has a pair of powerful Caterpillar 3512C diesel engines that each produce 1,380 kW at 1,600 rpm. These drive two Schottel SRP340 azimuthing thrusters with fixed pitch propellers of 2,100 mm diameter.
Med XXVI is a 23 m azimuthing stern drive (ASD) tug built for harbour and terminal operations and coastal towing.
