Council consider jetty options
The Whyalla City Council are assessing the best way to use the old jetty after sinking it to make way for the town’s new loopy jetty.
Council are looking at two options – the first being removing the structure in its entirety and recycling its steel, while the other is using it to create an artificial reef.“Both potential outcomes have positives around them. At this stage council has an open mind on this, ultimately we will be guided by the cost of the exercise.”
The sinking of the jetty would be a ‘specialist process’.Construction of the jetty is expected to be complete by Christmas.
