Van Oord Awarded Anaklia Deep Sea Port Project
The Government of Georgia grants the Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) the exclusive right to construct, develop and operate the $2.5 billion Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which will help establish a new maritime corridor from China to Europe.
The ADC signed a contract with one of the largest maritime engineering companies, Van Oord, to conduct pre-construction works.
The Anaklia Deep Sea Port is expected to be operational by 2020. Thousands of workers will be employed during the nine phases of port construction and development.
Anaklia Deep Sea Port will be constructed on around one-thousand acres of land on the Black Sea. The depth and infrastructure of the port will provide accessibility to Panamax and post-Panamax vessels that cannot be served by any other port in Georgia. After completion, the port will have capacity to serve 100 million tons of freight turnover annually. Completion of the first phase and the opening of the port is scheduled by 2020.
